MediaRoad Sandbox Prize winners announced

 

The winners of the MediaRoad Sandbox Prizes were announced on Sunday 15 September, during an award ceremony taking place at IBC2019 in Amsterdam.

  • The 1st Prize was awarded to Newsbridge, a startup collaborating with France Televisions’ Sandbox, for its Newsbridge IdX project, an automatic cognitive indexing service
  • The 2nd Prize was awarded to On-Hertz, collaborating with the Vlaamse Radio Televisie (VRT) Sandbox, for their full radio studio on a tablet, providing a cost-effective and straightforward solution in mobility
  • France Télévisions Sandbox was also rewarded as the Sandbox creating the most Quality Label projects. This Sandbox was always among the most active in collaborating with startups and exploring innovative solutions, certifying 5 projects with the Quality Label as part of the MediaRoad project.

 

The Sandbox Prizes recognise the achievements of start-ups and SMEs in terms of innovative concepts, as part of the Sandbox hub, the project hub focusing on innovation within the MediaRoad project.

The Prizes were presented by Judy Parnall – EBU Technical Committee Chair, who said:

“MediaRoad has definitely promoted cooperation and created a win-win context for broadcasters and start-ups alike. We are pleased to recognise these successes with the Sandbox Prizes and congratulate the winners for their innovative and creative approach, which will no doubt lead to further ground-breaking ideas”

The MediaRoad project aims to support the transformation of the European media sector by building an ecosystem for innovation involving diverse media associations, public service media organisations, commercial radios and broadcasters, media workers’ organisations; academic research institutes and innovation centres, independent producers and SMEs.

Have your say on future objectives for EU-funded research and innovation

On the 28th of June 2019, the European Union, in the preparation of the implementation of Horizon Europe, launched an online consultation to prepare a ‘Strategic Plan’ for Horizon Europe that will guide the work programmes and calls for proposals for Horizon Europe’s first four years (2021-2024). It is complemented by an online consultation on Horizon Europe Co-design – Implementation, open until the 4th of October 2019.

This post recaps MediaRoad’s response, generally asking for a more systematic presence of the media sector in Horizon Europe’s work programmes.  It follows the structure of the guidelines.
