YLE Sandbox
Paradise
Paradise is a VR experience that takes you to Enewetak Atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. You can explore the site where the US carried out a large number of nuclear tests in the 1940’s and 1950’s, and see what life on Enewetak looks like today. You will also witness a nuclear blast, viewing it on a beach 10 kilometers away from the detonation.
The making of Paradise brought together journalists, a cameraman and producers from Yle as well as 3D modelling and VR specialists from a startup company, Teatime Research.
The aim was to study how young audiences could be attracted with this type of content, and how a mixture of 360 video, archive material and augmented reality works out in a single VR experience.
Making of video of Paradise can be found on Yle Sandbox’s YouTube channel and the experience itself is available on STEAM: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1016390/Perspectives_Paradise/
