TheFictionLab | Cognitive sciences at the service of France 2 daily soap opera


France Télévisions, studio, its production subsidiary, and the start-up TheFictionLab recently conducted a first experiment on the France 2 daily soap project Un si grand soleil. Relying on experts in cognitive sciences, TheFictionLab carried out a diagnosis of the screenplay of the first episodes of this series centered on society issues, and evaluated the predictable effects of the on the audience on an emotional point of view. For example, whether the plot is compelling enough, if the heroes are memorable, etc. The goal of the test lied both in optimizing audience satisfaction by ensuring a good “mix” of factors such as interest, credibility, identification, excitement or emotion, but also in validating the relevance of using such tools for video production, especially tv series.
